I hope to provide a brief guide to the principal places visited in the Canadian Arctic, but research and writing time for this activity has been impacted by ongoing Arctic consulting work. As a result, it may be end of this year, or early next year, before I have a document ready for posting.
As part of the guide, I planned to include a power point presentation given by James Bond P. Eng., FSNAME, Director, Polar Research and Ice Class Ships of ABS at the 2019 Arctic Shipping Forum in Montreal. Rather than wait on my text, I have provided the power point here. This paper is provided with the approval of both James Bond, and Informa, who ran the conference.
I believe the ABS Polaris concept is an excellent planning tool for itinerary development, showing where a ship of specific ice capability can safely sail at any time of the season. Subject to ice information availability, ABS plans to extend the concept to other Arctic regions, and to the Antarctic. If you want to contact James about this, please email me, and I will put you in touch.
