Cruise and Maritime Voyages

Covid 19 is a major problem for cruise companies, and even the best financed are having problems staying afloat. Some of the smaller ones are starting to fall by the way side. The most recent company to enter bankruptcy administration is Cruise and Maritime Voyages in the UK, and their sister company TransOcean Tours in Germany. The company had been trying to obtain funding to see it through the pandemic, but this did not work out.
The company operated some elderly, classic cruise ships, one of which – Marco Polo(800 Berths, 1965 built) – had a leading role in the early days of Antarctic cruising. The following was posted just as the company announced it was entering administration.
A photograph of the ship off the Svartisan Glacier is on page 140, and its history with polar cruising can be found on pp60-61, 81, 86, 105, 168, 172. Other photographs are in the colour section.
